Checker · 100% free, no signup · Updated May 2026
See if your caption fits TikTok, Reels, Shorts, LinkedIn, and X.
A free caption character counter for all major social platforms. Live-counts against each platform's limit (Twitter 280, IG 2,200, LinkedIn 3,000, YouTube 5,000) with truncation-warning indicators showing where the "see more" cutoff lands on mobile.
Paste a caption draft. The checker shows character count vs each platform’s hard limit, plus the "above-the-fold" cutoff (the first portion that shows in feed without "see more"), so you know whether your hook lands before the truncation.
Who this is for
Anyone cross-posting to TikTok, Reels, Shorts, LinkedIn, and X who needs the same caption to fit every platform without manual character counting.
The problem this solves
Each platform has different caption limits AND different above-the-fold truncation points. A LinkedIn-perfect 800-character caption gets brutally cut at the 130-char fold preview. The checker shows both numbers per platform so you can structure the hook to fit.
On Instagram, only the first ~125 characters of a caption are visible before the "more" tap on mobile — yet 64% of brand captions front-load the hook past character 200.

Frequently asked
What's the Instagram caption limit?
2,200 characters total. Mobile shows the first ~125 before "more" tap. Front-load the hook in the first 125.
Does Twitter still count at 280?
Yes for non-Premium accounts. X Premium subscribers can post up to 25,000 characters but the algorithm de-prioritizes long posts in the feed.
How is LinkedIn truncation different?
LinkedIn shows the first 3 lines (~140-220 chars) before "see more" on mobile. The mobile cutoff happens at a different point than the absolute limit (3,000 chars).
Should I always max out the character limit?
No. Engagement drops past 1,500 characters on Instagram, past 500 on Twitter, past 800 on LinkedIn. Longer doesn't mean better.
Does the checker account for emoji as 1 or 2 chars?
Yes — uses Unicode codepoint counting, which matches how the platforms actually count emoji. Some emojis count as 2 due to ZWJ sequences.
