Who this is for
Podcast hosts who script before recording and want to hit a target duration without over-running.
The problem this solves
Scripts written by feel always run long. The calculator gives you a hard estimate so you can trim before recording, not in post.
Podcast retention curves vary 4-7× by length and format: interview shows peak at 40-60 minutes, solo monologues at 20-30 minutes, news/recap at 8-15 minutes — yet 47% of new podcasts default to 60+ minute episodes regardless of format.

Frequently asked
How long should a podcast episode be?
Depends on format. Interview: 35-60 min. Solo: 18-32 min. News/recap: 8-18 min. Documentary: 30-50 min. The checker auto-recommends based on selected format.
Is shorter always better for new podcasts?
For the first 10 episodes: yes, stay under 30 minutes. Audience growth is harder than retention; shorter episodes are easier to subscribe to without commitment.
Should I cut episodes if they run long?
Only if cuts don't hurt content. Listeners forgive 5-10 min over the format-norm; 20+ over signals lack of editing.
Do longer episodes earn more ad revenue?
Yes per-episode, but at lower per-minute rates. Mid-roll ads max out at 2-3 per episode regardless of length, so revenue/min plateaus.
Should every episode be the same length?
No. Variance signals authenticity. But stay within ±25% of your format average — bigger swings confuse audience expectations.
